        Nature Photography DC/MD/VA Meetup's
                   "MULBERRY CHALLENGE”

Every critter with a sweet tooth -- or beak -- seems to be heading for mulberry trees in late May & early June. So FOLLOW THE FOOD and photograph your favorite birds & beasts binging on these bodacious berries. (Just don't choke on the alliteration!)

In the Mid-Atlantic, we have native red mulberries and white Asian mulberries. WHERE? Several grow along the trail at Dyke Marsh in Alexandria. Some grow near Mile Marker Zero on the 184.5-mile long C&O Canal in the District. A mega tree grows in the parking lot of Occoquan Bay NWR in Woodbridge. Need more help finding them? Search the databases below or post in comments for help locating some. And while you're at it, plant a native tree or ten in your own backyard or donate some to public parks so your grandkids can enjoy them!

PHOTO DEETS: Ideally the bird/critter is EATING the berry -- because, heck that's a more interesting photo -- but, yes, it's also okay if they are just NEXT TO the berries.

CAPTIONS: When you upload a pic, please identify your critter using iNaturalist.org or other trustworthy sources. Extra points for cute critters and/or cute captions! Humans are allowed in photos but don't count as critters!

(1) PHOTOGRAPH BETWEEN MAY 25 AND JUNE 25, 2020.
